Elk Grove History
Elk Grove is a city in Sacramento County California situated just south of the state capital of Sacramento. It became part of the Sacramento Arden Arcade Roseville Metropolitan Area. The 2nd largest city in Sacramento County, Elk Grove used to be the most quickly growing city in the United States.
Elk Grove was founded in 1850 as a phase stop for tourists coming from Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area, when the Elk Grove Hotel and Stage Stop was founded by James Hall and the city was subsequently named after the hotel.

The new Elk Grove Public Library lies at 8900 Elk Grove Blvd in a modern-day 2 story building. It relocated to this place from just a block East. The library belongs to the more comprehensive Sacramento Town library system. The Elk Grove Library also serves surrounding neighborhoods such as Vineyard, Wilton, Sloughhouse, and Rancho Murieta. Extra local libraries supplement areas, such as the public Franklin High Library.
Elk Grove is serviced by a fared bus system called e-Tran that encompasses much of the city’s main thoroughfares.
The Elk Grove Regional Park is the biggest park in the area with it’s famous Pirates Island. Smaller parks include Morse Park and Camden Park.
