History of Elk Grove and the Surrounding Area
Elk Grove is a city in Sacramento County California located just south of the state capital of Sacramento. It belongs to the Sacramento Arden Arcade Roseville Metropolitan Area. The 2nd largest city in Sacramento County, Elk Grove was once the most quickly growing city in the US.
Elk Grove was founded in 1850 as a phase stop for tourists coming from Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area, when the Elk Grove Hotel and Stage Stop was opened by James Hall and the city was subsequently called after the hotel.

Elk Grove is also the house of the private six-year Universalist spiritual college Mission Academy. California Northstate University College of Pharmacy moved to Elk Grove near Interstate 5.
The brand-new Elk Grove Town library lies at 8900 Elk Grove Blvd in a modern 2 story building. It moved to this area from simply a block East. The library belongs to the broader Sacramento Public Library system. The Elk Grove Library likewise serves neighboring communities such as Vineyard, Wilton, Sloughhouse, and Rancho Murieta.
